Although the green lizard is not native to the UK mainland, it is the largest lizard found in the UK. The green lizard has been introduced in a few areas in Southern England where it has bred successfully. The species is common across continental Europe. Males have a larger head and a uniform green colouring punctuated with small spots that are more pronounced upon its back. The throat is bluish in the adult males and to a lesser extent in the females. The females tend to be slightly more brown.
